SWIM
An attempt begins today, to break the world record for the longest relay-swim.
Four records were set by a team in August 2007, for the 3-way, 4, 5 and 6-way swim – the longest taking 32 hours, 32 minutes and 44 seconds.
Today, the team led by local hotelier Thomas Knoblett, will start their swim on Lake Windermere, to break a record set in America last year.
WEST COAST MAINLINE
Route improvement work on the Bay’s national rail link has been cancelled this weekend.
Through trains will operate between Scotland and London Euston through Lancaster and Oxenholme, in efforts to help people potentially affected by air travel problems caused by the volcanic ash-cloud.
Virgin Trains aims to run an hourly service on both Saturday and Sunday.
LUXURY BOAT
The glamour of Monaco comes to Bowness today.
A new luxury yacht is coming to the Windermere Marina village.
The 55 foot Sealine F42 is expected to draw boat enthusiasts from all over the northwest until Monday.
GREAT NORTH SWIM
It’s the very last chance for people to sign up for the Great North Swim today.
All the places for next month’s event have been filled, but a few were reserved by the national deaf/blind charity, Sense.
