MAN CHARGED AFTER CAR HITS HORSES

A man has been charged after an incident where two horses were killed and their riders injured just off the M6 near Shap.

A X-type Jaguar was in collision with the riders at junction 39 on Friday.

A man in his 60′s was airlifted to hospital and a woman also needed treatment.

70-year-old Harold Birtwhistle from Wigan, faces charges of drink-driving, driving without due care and attention and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

He’s been bailed to appear before Carlisle Magistrates on July 18th.
