ELECTRIC BLANKET TESTS THIS WEEK
ELECTRIC BLANKET TESTS THIS WEEK
Posted: September 19, 2011
People who have electric blankets in South Cumbria are being invited to a safety session that could save their life today.
Cumbria’s Trading Standards Team are checking them for free, to make sure they’re not dangerous.
They’re at the Nan Tait Centre in Barrow until 5 today, but you must book an appointment.
More sessions are being held in Ulverston, Grange and Kendal next month.
Future sessions are being held on the following dates:
Monday 3 October – Committee Room 2, County Offices, Kendal
Tuesday 4 October – St Paul’s Parish Church Hall, Grange
Wednesday 5 October – Methodist Church Hall, Hartley Street, Ulverston
Cumbria County Councillor Gary Strong, cabinet member for trading standards, said: “Faulty electric blankets carry a very real risk of causing fires and personal injury, often to the most vulnerable people. I would encourage people who own an electric blanket to take advantage of this offer and book an appointment to get their blanket checked, as this opportunity will only be available during at these scheduled events.”
Angela Jones, trading standards manager, said: “Electrical blanket checks in previous years have shown that many local residents are using faulty and often potentially lethal electric blankets. The statistics show a simple safety check can help to save lives. I hope that people, particularly the elderly, will take advantage of this free service.”
Testing is strictly by appointment only with limited spaces. For details on this please contact trading standards on: Kendal – 01539 713577 or Ulverston: 01229 404040
