SOUTH LAKES MP SLAMS FIRE DECISION

South Lakes MP Tim Farron’s slammed the decision to close Cumbria’s fire control centre.
999 calls to the fire service will soon be dealt with by a regional call centre in Cheshire.
That project – based in Warrington – was scrapped by the government last year but the Northwest’s five fire authorities have decided to use it anyway.
Mr. Farron says we can’t expect someone down in Cheshire to know the difference between Staveley-in-Westmorland and Staveley-in-Cartmel.
He said: “For the County Council to move the control centre out of our area to people who don’t know the geography of the South Lakes could mean serious danger – how can we expect someone in Warrington to know the difference between Staveley-in-Westmorland and Staveley-in-Cartmel when someone calls in distress? I will continue to work with the Fire Brigades Union to oppose these plans.”
