CALLS FOR CHANGES TO CONTROL CENTRE PLANS
CALLS FOR CHANGES TO CONTROL CENTRE PLANS
Posted: October 5, 2011
South Lakes MP Tim Farron is calling on Cumbria County Council to abandon plans to be part of a regional emergency services control centre for the whole North West area.
Merseyside has just pulled out of the North West proposals, after the Police there proposed setting one up just for that area, rather than the entire North West.
Now, Mr Farron’s urging Cumbria to do the same.
Tim said: “The project has been called a ‘white elephant’ and it really is. For the county council to move the control centre out of Cumbria, down to Warrington, could mean serious risks to public safety – how can we expect someone in Warrington to know the difference between Staveley-in-Westmorland and Staveley-in-Cartmel when someone calls in distress? I will continue to work with the Fire Brigades’ Union to oppose these plans.”
