There’s a call for the local cockle picking industry to be protected.
There’s no priority for permits to harvest them.
Beds in the Northwest have been closed because of the number of rescues needed for inexperienced fisherman.
South Lakes MP Tim Farron says it’s the local, seasoned pickers who are suffering.
The Morecambe Bay beds are off limits at the moment because of sewage.
