GRANGE TOILETS SHUT AFTER VANDALISM
GRANGE TOILETS SHUT AFTER VANDALISM
Posted: November 9, 2011
Repeated vandalism on the promenade toilet block in Grange has forced the Town Council to close them until further notice.
Vandals have kicked in the door frame, smashed lighting and the damaged pipe work, leaving councillors with no option but to board up and temporarily close the facilities.
Grange Mayor Tom Harvey said “When SLDC decided to stop running the toilets we decided at GTC to step in to ensure that Grange retain these facilities on the Prom. Sadly, mindless thugs have caused a significant amount of damage which will take some time and money to repair and until we can do that we have unfortunately had to close them to try and prevent and further vandalism. I really am astonished and disgusted that people would do this and my full thoughts on these vandals are probably not suitable for print. As a small Town Council we don’t have limitless funds to carry out significant repairs like these so we will have to explore all available options. I can only apologise to residents and visitors alike for the inconvenience and ask that if anyone has any information on this vandalism to contact the police as soon as possible. We are committed to keeping public toilets in Grange and its depressing that a few delinquents feel that criminal damage is an acceptable way to spend their time”
There are still alternative public toilet facilities in Grange in both the Ornamental Gardens and on Church Hill, which have also kept open by Grange Town Council.
