Posted: January 27, 2012

A woman who suffered serious burns early this morning during a fire at her home at Crag View in Kendal has died.

Police and fire crews were called to the address just after midnight, and 35 year old Stacey Mackie was taken to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, before being transferred to Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester, where she passed away this afternoon.

A 61-year old man from Kendal was arrested this morning on suspicion of attempted murder and arson with intent to endanger life.

Now, detectives are treating it as a murder investigation.

The man is currently being treated at Furness General Hospital while officers continue their enquiries.

Police are appealing for witnesses who may have been in the area to contact them.

They are also keen to speak to anyone who has spoken to Stacey recently, seen her, or seen her speaking to a man over recent days.

Anyone with information should call DCI Mike Forrester or the Kendal Public Protection Unit on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
