CAREER CRIMINAL JAILED

Posted: February 22, 2012

A Kendal man described by a judge as “a professional criminal” has been jailed for two years and three months for breaking into the Booths supermarket in Windermere.

Carlisle Crown Court heard that 24-year-old Christopher Calvert of South Road had 96 previous convictions, including one which earned him a two-year prison sentence in 2010 for breaking into the Home Bargains store in Kendal.

He pleaded guilty to burgling the Booths store with intent to steal in the early hours of September the 4th last year.

The court heard he crawled into the store on his stomach after cutting through two doors which led into the area where the burglar alarm control panel was situated.

He hastily got out of the shop when he accidentally activated the alarm while trying to disable it.
